Letter from Taiwan

“I was born in North Carolina, and adopted when I was a baby. I never knew much about my Taiwanese heritage but I finally got the chance to visit Taiwan in 2017. My first visit was incredibly ceremonious because it overlapped with Taiwan’s LGBTQ Pride, Asia's largest Pride celebration. To make things even more celebratory, Taiwan's highest court had just ruled in favor of legalizing gay marriage. Growing up in the south, I never had any gay or Asian friends, so this was the first time I felt at home.”
