“The waves that were coming in were gorgeous—kinda crystal, smooth, but very tiny. All of the surfers wanted to be in the water. They were all sitting there wishing, hoping, and conjuring up a wave.”

- Photographer Lauren Marttila on “The Lineup”

Lauren (@laurenmarttilaphotography) comes to Nantucket by way of New York City and is what islanders call a “wash ashore.” Meant to describe a person who migrates to Nantucket, an island thirty miles out to sea, the term just so happens to perfectly describe Lauren’s photography, too. She first found her footing in the sand, shooting her husband surfing. For their one year anniversary, he got her a camera and, as the saying goes, the rest is history. Today you’ll find Lauren “hanging out of the truck trying to get the perfect shot, sprinting to catch the last light, or grabbing the best wave of the day.”

This photograph, “Lineup,” is the one that made Lauren realize she should start selling her work. And boy... is she ever. In the past few weeks alone, her work has been featured by Emily Henderson, included in several interior designers’ beachy spaces, and sold in some seriously cool local retail shops. Can’t you picture her work in one of Amber Interiors’ spaces, too? Hopefully that’s next for her.

Dying to get one of Lauren’s pieces for yourself? Good news. We’ve teamed up to give away this 33” x 22” print of “Lineup” float mounted in our Irvine Slim white gallery frame (value: $498). Enter over on our Instagram by Friday, July 14!
