A Book a Day

Framed Book Pages in Classic Gold and Black Frames, The Catcher in the Rye

When Meagan was a freshman in high school, her English teacher assigned the class to read "Night" by Elie Weisel. “I read it in a single night,” Meagan said. “The next day in class, he gave everyone 10 minutes to read, but I had already finished the book.”

The teacher seized the opportunity to share his love of books. He went to his desk, drew out “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger and said, “Read that. It’s my favorite book.”

“It was a very cool thing for a teacher to do,” Meagan said. As she read, she discovered his comments scribbled across the pages. “As a kid, I saw it as a teacher commenting in a book. But now as an adult, it feels more like someone exploring the content for themselves.”

After finishing the book, she forgot to give it back. “I held onto it. It moved with me through college and young professional life.”

Still a voracious reader, Meagan never leaves home without a book. “Reading is a constant in my life,” she explained. “Reading a favorite book is like putting on an old sweater and curling up with a cup of tea.”
